It has been a long time coming and at times I doubted I would ever release my third record. I wrote and recorded the album between 2021 and 2023 but shelved it for a number of reasons including two years when I found myself battling some heavy, unexpected health issues. Finally the day arrived when I knew I was ready to part with these songs. To give them away to the world, set them free from my head and my figurative shelf.

Smoke Signals is a dichotomous examination of the rise and fall and in between of relationships I had the fortune of experiencing. The first kisses, the first fights, the sleepless nights, the ends in sight and the ones we lose that never dim their light, all organized into a collection of raw acoustic demos. Two of these songs are the first and only takes. I wrote the music and lyrics in one recording. Songs don't always come fully formed but when they do it's magical. To be able to capture that on record is something I'm particularly proud of with this project. The flip side of that coin is the feeling of accomplishment that resulted from me deciding to let my inner perfectionist relax for once. These rough-hewn confessionals are capture the urgency of the moment; the purest distillation of emotion. Juxtaposed with these tracks are dreamy, synth dense pop excursions, narrating the relationships the acoustic songs reference.

This being my third full-length feels like a new achievement. The first two records, Brave New World and Dangerous Paradise, respectively, were companion pieces in many ways. Smoke Signals is an entirely different vibe. Introspective and exploratory, when I listen to these songs they remind me of my stream of consciousness when I wrote I each one. All of this to say, I am incredibly proud of this record. And now it is yours as well. A shared experience of human connections. One thing that is common with every song I create is that they teach me something unique about my feelings or perspective that I didn't quite understand at the time.
